ok--quick backstory. I got hired to take candids of a child. I posted some in the people forum and I'm going to post some here.
I learned what I know from street/pj and used it with the little boy. I basically was with him and his family for an hour in the park and I followed him around until he kind of forgot about me and I just shot.
I got some typical child portrait shots just by capturing the right moment (I think the parents will like those and I like how they came out, those are in people), but I also got some more candid moments which I'm posting here. The parents did not request to be in the shots, but I liked some of the interacting--so here goes.
C&C wanted.

I think your choice of showing interaction with parents, may not be important to the parents now but will a few years down the road.
those images will be the ones they say, I remember when I did this or that with you

These here in S&PJ are more attractive to me. What comes through strongly in both sets is your search for the spontaneous revelation - of personality, uniqueness, beauty... I know you will only be really satisfied in yourself and your images when that quick steal of something special from life has been bagged.
That's one main reason why I think the set here are more successful. They are more sympatico with the photographer you are, the bystander who is also the hungry hunter after the guts. It also goes some way to understanding your approach to style and processing. I see you abstracting quite a lot, which to some eyes, judging by comments, seems forced and unnatural. But abstracting is at the core of what you do. You take not the rumble jumble of reality but an essence, and essences are abstracted and refined, and indeed become a different reality from their source. This is you, from what I see.
I say this is fantastic, and I revel in your forays into reality to bring back and refine some essence of what's out there. #1 & 4 are for me getting that.
Best.
Neil
BTW I have a sp in Yuri's thread, if you want to put a face on me. I love your pic there. Yes it has the "perfume" "fragancia" of the 50s-early 60s!

Funny you say this because I thought the same thing. They are pretty young parents and probably not looking at things for posterity but rather good shots of the little one. It made me happy to get them in the shot though and who knows maybe they will appreciate it.

Thanks Neil,
So now you know what I love to do. Glad they work for you.
I am also glad I posted both sets, thanks for looking at both.
AS to your SP, sometimes I'm surprised when I see peoples sps, especially when I think women are men etc., but yours...well I'm not surprised at all --fits the bill.

Hi Jenn,
This couple is quite young--I used to work with the dad back in my waitressing days oh 6 yrs ago. So they know me and through fb they have been following my progress and just finally came out and asked me.
They are familiar with my style but have also seen a few of the color cutsey photos, so I was hoping they would not just expect the cutsey, though I think I delivered on that too. But a fair share is b&w and more PJ oriented. We shall see what they think. I want to say they will love them, but I've been known to be wrong before .
I did love doing it though--so it's a win for me.

I'm a fan of this type of work as well.....nicely done.
