4200m above sea level sits the lake of the moon, or chandertal in local language.
Its the source of the river Chandra, which eventually merges with Bhaga river and becomes the mighty chenab, a major tributary of the river Indus.
The road to this lake forks around 11kms from the 4500+m high Kunzum pass.
Around 10kms of it is motorable, and rest has to be done by foot.
Initial trek is steep, and 3 feel like 30 at that altitude.
enough of the documentary, time for the pics
A glaciar to the left of chandartaal, when viewed from west(vehicle parking direction)
The first glimpse
In the left of the frame is the river chandra, it starts here
Chandertaal
Don't know this bird
On the way back from the lake
The trek path, earlier it was motorable, but forest department dug up the road 3kms before the lake to prevent pollution and littering
The jeep track to the parking lot
the parking lot
Thanks!
