And think I even like it better cropped like so. If you dont like me cropping your images, I am SORRY! they dont call me the mad cropper for nothing:D

many times i find myself so indecisive on which crop i like better. in that particular shot, i liked the openness of the beach... which is why i didnt crop off the left side of the image. but at the same time, i didnt like how the small rocks did nothing to gather interest. in fact there were more rocks in the scene that were equally uninteresting that i cropped out.
i think the crop you left is a better composed shot.
thanks so much.

Also really like Marc's crop on #10.
#8 looks good also, but I think could benefit from a true black point. And from a compositional standpoint, there a lot of open space on the right of the frame. If you had gotten closer to the rocks, you could have filled the frame a bit more. My eye is being drawn to the crashing waves and that's the area I'm seeing as the subject, but unfortunately that area is somewhat small in the frame. Getting closer would help making that area more prominent. (I know getting close to the waves can be a nerve-racking experience with a camera, but here's what I use to help keep my camera safe, it's cheap and it has worked well so far!)
Looks like a great trip!

as for #8, i again struggled with the crop... but ultimately chose this layout because of the many interesting areas within the shot.
to me, the primary subject is the moutain on the left and the waves crashing beneath it... however if you follow the crest to the right you can see where it evens out and curls over neatly. i thought that it was more interesting to keep the waves on the right because one could find a number of areas interesting within the composition. perhaps i was being a little ambitious, though .
thanks again for your help.

I love the shot and the crop. Marc has invoked the Rule of 3rd's and it's amazing how it always works.
