any reason they would not be compatible? I want to replace my 105mm macro lens with this setup.

If you want a single lens that has both perspective control and true "macro" capabilities I recommend considering the PC-E Micro Nikkor 85mm f/2.8D.

In your case, since it looks like you have the Nikkor 45mm PC already (according to your signature), I suggest buying a set of extension tubes and trying them with your 45mm PC lens. I suggest that it will work but at close to true macro you will find some additional chroma distortion at the edges and corners of the image and that the distance from the lens to subject may not allow very good positioning of lights.

The extension tubes will work with your 105mm macro lens so they will not go to waste, plus the tube set will work on the 45mm PC at close focus distances pretty well, it's just the life size magnification that I think you would find difficult.

I need the 45mm for wedding work but I want to leave my macro lens fro the ring shots behind. The PC 45mm can already do some macro..I just need to get a few inches closer. Thanks ziggy
