I need a clarification here..

1) Which nikkor is so called "cream factory"?
is it the 1.4 or 1.8?

2) Is it worth getting one if I already have a bigma 70-200 2.8?

I realize the 1.8 > 2.8, but none the less?

Which body would it sit better on? Crop or full?

thank you.

the "cream machine" is the 1.4. For portraiture there is nothing better on a full frame. Is it worth getting? If you do portraits then it is abosolutely worth getting.

Qarik, I do not do portraits.. yet. but do want to. :)

seeing as my 700 has arrived, i'm wondering if I should bear with sleeping on a couch for a few weeks and get the lens..:D

If you have the funds, try it. Make certain to buy from a reputable dealer...and If you don't like it, send it back!

I owned it once and got rid of it. I got it for a crop, and didn't like it. I'd prob. still own it if I'd have gotten it on my FX. However. When doing portrait work, it is not necessary to have such a very fast AF lens. No one is running and moving about. And I cannot imagine myself shooting at f/1.4. I think if I were to go the 85 route again, I'd consider an older MF lens, just to cut costs. But, like I said, if you have the funds....~

    Thank you very much, Tom.
Do you happen to have a link for the older version? Just want to make sure that i'll be looking at the right thing.

Would 1.8 be as beneficial on the Full crop? (granted, it is slower.. and cheaper)

A lot of folks own that f/1.8 AF lens too, and they like it. As far as being beneficial, I am not sure what you mean.

KEH has two of the MF f/1.4's listed here.

http://www.keh.com/ is a very reputable used camera and used lens dealer. I have used them many times and I recommend them highly.

To find AF lenses you should start in the proper place. For AF Nikon Nikkor prime lenses start with:

    Category:
    35mm

    Nikon Autofocus,

... and then choose "Fixed Focal Length Lenses".

    I see 3 - used Nikkor AF 85mm, f1.4 lenses for sale.
