Smart gallery kinda dumb

Or, more likely, I am. I created and populated a smart gallery and have since then uploaded two sets of photos to another gallery, each set containing images with the relevant keyword that should trigger its inclusion in the smart gallery. First upload - smart worked fine. Second upload - none of the tagged photos appear in the smart gallery. If I search the site on the relevant keyword, all show up - just not in the smart gallery.

You have to resave the smart gallery rule to get it to recognize the new images. Clearly it's not supposed to be this way and maybe, it will eventually include the new images, but if you want them to show up right away, then resave the smart gallery rule.

Thank you very much, John. It works, and I would have been a long time figuring that out!

Ewww! That means for each of my 30 or 40 smart galleries I'll have to go into all of them and resave each one every time I do a major photo upload to my site? Sounds like a lot of work for something that should be automagic...

It's unclear what exactly is happening at Smugmug. It could be just a delay so if you wait overnight, maybe the new images get picked up. Or, it could be that you have to resave the setting. All I've seen is that whenever I upload images and I need them to show before I go to sleep, I have to resave the smart gallery setting to assure they will be there when I need them.

For this reason, there are some situations where it's better for me to just reupload duplicate images and not play roulette with the smart gallery queries. They're getting close, but until it's completely predictable, I can't rely on it for all the things it has promise for.

Yes, we have to index the new photos and show them in the Smart Gallery.

Hi, Andy. So does this mean we do have to resave the settings to include new photos or will indexing automatically pick them up over time?
