This is the first time I have ever shot HS football and first time shooting at night. The game started with about 1/2 hour of good light and then went into darkness. All shot with Canon 1D mark iv and 300mm f2.8. Most of the night shots were taken at an iso of at least 6400 to 10000. Let me know what you think.

They're quite good but your WB is off on some. A little green around the gills... :)

    Love the shots.

very nice with the High ISO. I had given up on the high ISO after going as high as 6400 and not being able to get the shutterspeed I needed (1/500). However, your shots at ISO10,000 give me another glimmer of hope....I am going to have to go back and give it another shot!! Couple of questions if you don't mind:

    1) How well did your high ISO images hold up to cropping? and did you crop much on the photos you kept?

    2) How much noise reduction did you have to apply to the images? did you use Noiseware, Lightroom or something else?

    3) For your WB... did you shoot in AWB mode and correct in PP? or did you capture a WB level at the game?

    regards, Kevin

I tried not to crop too much of the high iso pictures, so what I would do is just move closer to the offense so I didn't have to crop them much.

For noise reduction I used Lightroom 3 and only slid the luminance over between 30 - 45.

I shot them all on AWB and fixed a few of the night shots by changing in lightroom.

The slowest I shot an image was 1/640 and most of the time at 1/1000 or 1/800 for the night photos.

I would definatly go back and try again. I don't know if you used a teleconverter when you tried but at f 4.0 it would be very difficult. Also I did notice that even when the exposure meter said it was underexposed the shots came out good.

OK now you are killing me with the IDM4, I just spent the last year with Kevin and Cecil helping me learn the flash set-up, now I see your high ISO pics that look great. My wife would kill me if I went for the 1DM4. I guess I'll have to stick with the flash and the 1DM3. very nice pictures. Patrick

I was using a teleconverter during the daytime, but I take it off at night. Thanks for the encouragement, I will give it another go this Thursday.

    thanks, Kevin
