Printing with margins

I really like Smuggy's two print services, but when printing for enlargements I want top frame, I wish I could tell them to not crop so I would have some blank paper to fit under the matting. Is this possible without me having to create files with built-in margins?

No, I'm sorry, it's not possible.

What do you reckon is the best workaround? I could create a print file in LR3 where the whole surface area is, say, a 16x24 print with the image itself taking up an albeit smaller space in the center. Surely someone has asked this before and you must have had a recommendation...?

You can do it the way you describe here. You can avoid the overlap on two of the sides, if that helps at all. After clicking "checkout", you're presented with the "crop" options: Auto, None, Adjust. If you choose "None", and say you wanted an 8x10, you'd avoid the large crop off two sides because it will add a white border to the other two sides, giving you the full frame. Your mat can cover that white border. But yes, when you mat that photo, you'd still be covering up some of two sides. I would love to have that option you're wanting. That would be very handy.

That's an excellent tip. It certainly gets you 50% of the way there, at least.

I took a 2x3 35mm photo into LR and very quickly made what I believe should be the file you make a big, matte-able print from. This seems like the way forward:

That's a 16x20 size canvas, for example, and I made 1 inch margins in LR. Now the Smuggy Buy Photo window shows the photo needing no cropping with a 16x20 print.
