A couple from the desert...

We've had a bobcat around the house a couple of times over the last week. I noticed it outside my office window again a couple of days ago and grabbed my camera to see if I could get a shot. I ran to the other end of the house and out the door. As I went out the door a rabbit ran in front of me and down the front of the house. It stopped midway down the length of the house. I hurriedly tried to get the camera set up as I moved closer. The rabbit spooked again and ran further down the front of the house and just into the sight line of the bobcat. Instantaneously the cat was on the rabbit. I grabbed a couple of shots as he departed towards the arroyo behind the house with his next meal.

I wish I had had the patience to get set before proceeding, but the image is pretty neat anyway with the area of best focus being the prey's face and look of resignation.

The next was yesterday morning. My son found a baby rattler, about 12" long, underneath a storage bin in the yard. Luckily, it was still early and cool and the snake was pretty mellow.

Macro from about 4" away:

Sweet shots!! That bobcat is an incredible behavioral shot. And either that's an awfully small rabbit, or one very large bobcat! Rattler shot is fantastic as well. Did you really get your lens within 4" of him? If so, you're even crazier than I am! eek7.gif

    Anyway, nice shooting. thumb.gif

I kept on having to get up in the viewfinder to see if I was aimed right. I wish I had live view on the back of the camera.

Ha, good one. Reminds me of one of my "chicken" techniques.
