Just got a roll of gray paper and thought I should get a few shots with the strobes.

I have the Elinchrom D-Lite 400's with soft-boxes.

24" Soft-box, camera right at minimum power
Snoot w/honeycomb grid, camera left at 2/3 power on the paper (background)

ISO-200
f/6.3
1/160
Vintage 35-70 2.8 Nikon

3.

I'm no expert at studio lighting so any C&C is more than welcome.

How close was the light? You are getting some harsh shadow on the boys face in #1, which indicates that the light is too far back. Also, I would have expected a larger catch light in their eyes, which also makes me think the light was too far away from the subjects. That said, I like the pictures and I think you are well on the way to getting some nice lighting.

Given the amount of space I had to work with I could have easily brought the soft box in closer. For this shoot I had the keylight about four feet away and the snooted about six feet away.
I will keep that in mind for the next shoot since I read elsewhere here that getting closer can produce better results.
    Thanks for the advice

The closer the light is the softer it is.. it doesn't make sense at first, but its true. Nice set!

yup..put the softbox as close as you can just outside the camera view. 4 feet is waaay too far..looks like you could get away with 1 foot or so.

The new Elinchrom D-Lite 400 IT's would be great with your kit since there in no PC connector on the body. These come with built in radio receivers and the two softbox kit comes with a Skyport transmitter that mounts on your hot shoe.
Well worth the extra money as these are great starter kits from a reputable company.
    Thanks
