Took a weekend to get away with the wife and daughter. The daughter is only one... asked a lot of her to sit in the car for so long but she did really well.
Sunset-- night before visiting the Maroon Bells.
Star Trails--
Have been wanting this shot forever-- but alas, clouds made it very difficult and I didn't get the shot I wanted. But the experience was awesome. Turns out-- I love the mountains at night! The odd lights on the mountain and the foreground are hikers making an early ascent.
The mass of black above,
I tread along the narrow way,
Millions of stars prisoners thereof,
It's immensity made my head sway,
Lungs heaving, muscles burning,
Shadowy figures along the edge lurk,
The darkness enveloped me, turning,
Clearing my mind refused to work,
Primeval torture of the dead of night,
Ghostly beasts circled me in flight,
I forge on, it is the ritual, it is the rite,
Fear upon fear, I stay, I fight,
To the last bit of courage I cling,
The roar of the wind does sing,
The image I seek to capture, to bring,
It's here, in the Valley of the Mountain King.

I'll be there in 3 weeks, might stay the night up there, not sure, depends on how quickly I want to make it out to Arches. Mainly going from Colorado Spings to Moab via Aspen only to stop and look at Peter Lik's gallery.
