Nikon sRGB 4.0.0.3002 vs sRGB IEC61966-2.1

Hello all,

I'm new to the forum. Thanks for all the great info and tips.

I've had a Smugmug account for a little over a year now, and recently upgraded to pro, and I'm getting ready to start selling some of my photos. I've been reading up on color-spaces and other tips for getting the best prints, and I have a couple of questions:

My images are coming out of my Nikon d300 with a color space listed as "Nikon sRGB 4.0.0.3002". I noticed in the softproof feature of Capture NX2, there is also listed an option of "sRGB IEC61966-2.1".

Which one should I use for uploading to Smugmug and subsequent printing via Bay Photo? Are they essentially the same? Do I need to convert from the Nikon sRGB to the other sRGB before uploading?

Also, just to make sure I understand: In order to get the most accurate preview of what the image will look like when printed, I need to download the ICC profile for Bay Photos, and when doing my post-processing, turn on soft-proofing with that as the target profile so I see what it will look like when printed and make adjustments using that, but not change the actual color space of the image itself, which should be sRGB (of some variety). Is that right?

I'm still a bit confused by the details of color spaces.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
pjordan

    sRGB IEC61966-2.1.

Yes, get the lab profile and soft proof if you like. Best? Let Bay do color correction for you, you won't be disappointed!

    Thanks Andy.

For Smugmug purposes, is there a difference between "Nikon sRGB 4.0.0.3002" and "sRGB IEC61966-2.1"? If so, which will result in better display on SM?

    Thanks!
