Hi,

another macro lens question - I know this one is not TRUE macro, offering 1:2 magnification.

Any experience of it?

I also have my eye on an APO version which I have read is better for reducing chromatic abberation. How does this one fare?

Thanks

Craig

This a pretty good version of a 70-300mm slow zoom. The price can be very right, the close focus capabilities are pretty good, and, at middle apertures and from 70-200mm, the results are very pleasing for many subjects. I've considered the lens myself for just knocking around.

Make sure you shoot in good light or give it plenty of light (flash primarily) so that you can stop it down a bit.

Wide open and at 300mm it does suffer, but it's not horrible if it's all you have with you and if the subject is very simple.

Thanks. At present the prices are good...if they stay that way I'll go for the APO one...

    cheers
