Flags on the 48
NH has 48 mountains that are 4,000 ft high or more (with at least 200 feet of elevation gain). They are known as the four thousand footers or 48 4Ks. Eash year on the Saturday nearest Sept. 11th, a group (www.flagsonthe48.org) organizes a memorial with hikers volunteering to hike up with at least one flag and pole to each of the summits.
This year I climbed Mt. Lafayette (5,260 ft) and then Mt. Lincoln (5,089 ft) in order to see the event in person for the first time and get some great pictures. The weather was gorgeus (even though it was in the mid 40's on the summits) and made the event that much better.
Hope you enjoy the pics. Entire gallery found <a href="http://sdways01.smugmug.com/48NH4Ks/Lafayette-Lincoln/">here</a>

There seems to be less and less garden in this state.
