I am looking into getting a power pack/supply for my 580 EX so I won't have to constantly feed batteries during weddings.

Any suggestions?

I am using a Janco External Flash Battery Pack, model "JCC FB1", which appears to have been replaced by the "DF-E4":

Like the Canon "CP-E4", the Janco unit is an external high-voltage power supply. It uses 8 AA cells and has internal circuits to lift the voltage for the flash. Charge times are a very acceptable 2-2.5 sec. per full output from an original Canon 580EX flash. I do have to be careful as the case is not large enough for some of the highest mAh AA cells, but I found some 2500 mAh cells that work fine. (I believe the same problem exists for the Canon CP-E4.) The Janco also shuts down with the flash power switch. Some competing units run as long as they are plugged into the flash, so the Janco is easier on batteries. I generally screw the Janco onto the bottom of the camera or the flash bracket. This makes for a very heavy setup but avoids stress on the connecting cord. The Janco comes with a carry bag which can be attached to a belt.

Altogether very pleased with the price and performance of the Janco.

I should add that I almost never use the 580EX at full power, since that can overheat the flash and cause it to shut down. Eventually that will also cause early failure of the flash.

Edit: I see a fair number of people are having failures with the unit after only a relatively short use. (Amazon feedback.)
