Shot this show the other night. The lighting was (by far) the worst I've seen for an MMA event. And this was a pro show! I did what I could but I apologize (in advance) for some of the noise, strange exposures, etc.). It looked like someone used a couple of cars' headlights to light the cage. The promoters loved the shots though. I guess that's what counts?

11: Why this one? Watch the next couple of shots...

13: Doctor stoppage. As you can see, it was a DEEP cut.

:::sigh::: I know. It just pains me to throw away photos where I caught great action but the light was just so bad I cannot recover it properly.

Well, the other part of the problem is I have to crop more than I'd like as I only have one body at the moment. I'm frantically trying to save up for a 2nd body so I can have my 28-70 on one and my 70-200 on the other. I wouldn't have to crop nearly as much.

! Thanks.
The 28-70 works well in that environment because the fighters are moving around the cage. 70mm is not wide enough if they're up close and personal. But, with the resolution on the 50D--assuming better lighting conditions--I can effectively crop when the fighters are on the other side of the cage. Having a 2nd body would help immensely so I could use both lenses. Just gotta save my pennies...
When I shot Ring of Combat XXX back in June--those shots are posted here somewhere and on my site--I actually had some blood splatter on my lens. Problem was, I was cleaning the lens and missed a great shot which was right in front of me! So, it can happen for sure. Maybe Canon should start to make their lenses and cameras blood-proof?
The promoters always like the shots. Problem is getting them to pay for your services. However, I'm getting more promoters in my area to pay me than I thought possible. Actually had another one call me yesterday about that for some upcoming shows. Not big money but enough to make it worth my time to go. I then sell shots to the fighters/schools/sponsors. Can't really make a living on it (certainly not where I live) but I can make a few bucks.
