Creating actions-- what to look out for in PS 4 (switching from PS 2)

Some of you tried your best to help me locate the actions I'd created in PS 2 when my computer crashed awhile back, but they never did turn up. I'm finally admitting defeat now I guess, and going back to the drawing board. I have CS 4 now. I describe some of the saga (what I'd already created) here if you're really interested: http://www.digitalgrin.com/showthread.php?p=1461478#post1461478 But anyway, I've barely cracked open PS 4 yet. I know that one of the first things I need to do, however, is create actions again....grrr...aaargh! I'm dreading it, because I'd worked out a bunch of the nitty gritty details concerning actions & was using them, finally, for a bunch of folders of un-edited photos. I can't get into PS 2 anymore, even if my HD was revived, because we only have a key for one home copy through my spouse's work, and he/they switched over to PS 4 in the meantime. So-- my questions are:
1. Can anyone tell me if there's much or any difference between PS 2 & PS 4 concerning Actions?
2. Are there new pitfalls I need to watch out for in PS 4 when creating actions? The trickiest thing for me when I did it before was figuring out the re-naming/adding to folders tricks when I was switching file types, etc.
3. Is there any additional provision for organizing actions, alphabetizing them (or groups of actions), etc.? I seem to recall needing to create folders in the order I wanted them listed, as I couldn't sort them later in PS 2.
4. Any other tips that'll ease the pain of doing this process again? (and no, I have no handy list of what actions I'd already recorded.... boohoo)
5. Note: I never (or almost never) work on jpgs & re-save as jpgs... I always convert to PSD or TIFF, fix, then convert back to JPG, PSD, or PSD + Jpg. That's what made actions tricky. I'm thinking of keeping the conversion as a separate step this time, although that has its issues too. Ideas on that are welcome. (the reason I'm doing that are: I shoot like crazy. I can't store a bazillion RAW files from every shoot. I sell stock, so artifacting is a huge factor when getting files accepted by agencies. Re-saving jpgs alone isn't an option, so this way I'm only having to store large PSD files of the better files. And yes... all this may change in the future, depending on my camera, storage, etc.)
