CS 4 and DNGs

I thought all the versions of CS after CS2 were supposed to be able to read & save as DNG. But I don't see the option to save as DNG in PS 4. Is it not possible? Or are there conditions that would prevent something from being saved as a DNG?

How are you trying to do it? No version of Photoshop can, but all the recent versions of Camera Raw should be able to. If you have the image open in Camera Raw you should be able to do it with the Save Image button.

Ahh, ok. I haven't learned how to use Camera Raw yet. If I start shooting raw more at some point, I will. (it's not for jpgs really, right?) The largest card able to fit in the D1x I have is 2 GB. And batteries are a BIG issue w/ the D1x... so for max quality + small files, I shoot jpgs. I haven't shot raw on it yet. I'd like to, when I'm not in a situation where I may run out of battery or storage.... when I travel that's not usually the case.

Yeah, don't worry about DNG until you decide to shoot raw. Camera Raw can also edit JPEGs and TIFFs, which is useful for doing bulk adjustments to them, but I don't think there is any benefit from saving a JPEG as a DNG, so don't bother with DNG for now.
