Maine Lighthouses By Boat

This summer, my wife and I took a lighthouse cruise departing from the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath. While the sky was overcast, creating a dull, flat light, nonetheless seeing ten lighthouses from the water was cool. This tour followed the Kennebec River, all the way out to Seguin Island, over to Boothbay Harbor, and back down the Sagadahoc River to Bath again. All in 3 1/2 hours. Near Sequin Island, two whales and a porpoise were sighted! Other wildlife seen were seals on a rock, osprey and bald eagles.

1. Doubling Point Light

2. Doubling Point Range Lights. They guide vessels down the channel: when one light is seen, rather than two, the vessel is in the center of the channel.

3. Perkins Island Light with recent restoration of the tower.
