Richard/B.D.

How about a new exercise. We haven't had one in a while.
I think it would be good for the pj community as it seems to be growing and has several new people.

Just a thought.

I think that's a fine idea. How about night shots? Anything outdoors goes, but no flash permitted. ear.gif

Good idea. How about a short story. Three to four image essays. Keep it short and the image size smallish. "Write about what you know"

I suck at night shots but I'm in.

I think I would do better with the story in 3-4 images in the daytime as I'll be struggling as is getting a night shot. But I'm in anyway. I need the push.

I'm in too. I was disappointed that not many posted after BD's exercise months ago. It's a great learning opportunity.

Excellent idea.. I've been meaning to try a few night shots.

I just finished reading "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson (excellent book/writing style/illustrations) and he has a chapter on "low-light/night shooting" which he explains in laymens terms.

I hope my basic Sunpac tripod is up to the task.. :D

I think a night shoot challenge is a great idea. But I'd suggest singles, rather than stories. I'd also say the shot must include a person or persons. And NO flash; no tripods. clap.gif

How would you get a shot that requires a long, multi-second exposure without a tripod? I understand no flash..

Who said anything about long- multi-second shots? Find an available light source and figure out how to use it. If we have any vampires in the group, now's your time to shine!

I'm in... Will another thread be started specifically for this or should we post in this one?

I started an assignment thread on another board I frequent based on what I've learned here on Street PJ! thumb.gif

I stated three shots, title at the top, one must be neon, one must have a person and one is a freebie shot. Tell a story, provide a vibe or feeling so others can experience what the shooter did. Something along those lines sound acceptable/worthwhile?

Sounds like we are coming to an agreement here.

To recap, the suggested rules so far are:
    1. Outdoors, single night shot.
    2. No flash or tripod--use available light.
    3. Must include people

I'm not sure #3 matters, but I'm OK with it. Let's keep this thread open for another day of discussion then I'll open a separate thread for submissions. I suggest we allow two weeks to give everyone time to participate.

    OK? ear.gif

If you want to do a long exposure, you would need to limit yourself to a place where you have something to rest your camera on or against--a bench, a street light, a wall, whatever. Just another thing to learn. deal.gif

As most of you know, I shoot handheld at night a lot. So, I'm going to use this as an opportunity to practice critique and try my darnedest to provide advice on techniques.
