I've been visiting the Street & PJ forum here quite frequently over the past several weeks & have become quite fond of the images others have produced. At any rate, the attached was taken in the Dupont Circle area of Washington DC a few days ago. C&C welcomed and appreciated. Additionally, any suggestions on "getting over the fear of shooting total strangers" would also be welcomed! Thanks.

It almost looks like Kodak Tri-X film.
Calculations method
Gray & Red channel with a blending mode of Overlay (around 40% +)
Added a layer using Screen as the blending mode (around 25% +)
Sharpened the lightness channel

i always enjoy the "chess" shots, and this one is no exception. I like the hand motions on the one player in contrast with his still counterpart. The color version is nice, but the b&w is the winner for me.
As to shooting strangers, the more you do it, the easier it gets.

I still have that uncomfortable feeling. And I think it's good to have it because it makes you think about what you're shooting and why, and whether you should be shooting it. Think of it as an early warning system. But seriously, the only way to conquer the fear is just to push through it - or take drugs.
As to conversion....nice job...My starting point is 43-34-23

As to shooting strangers Crag Tanner speaks to this in a lot of his Daily Critiques, now called Photography Critiques, I note. Also Crag has at least one tute at that site, The Mindful Eye, and does Next Step workshops, that include dealing with this.
I have not had an opportunity to take one of his workshops yet, but I have watched all of his online critiques for years. A friend has taken a workshop with him and was enthusiastic about it.

Actually- something in me prefers color.. I imagine what Ansel Adams shots would have looked like in color.
