Bumble bee saga part 2

Went back to check how the bumble bee was doing an hour or two later and it was still sitting in the same hibiscus flower I'd place it in but even more covered in pollen.
I let it walk onto my hand and took it back into the house. This time I put a drop of sugar syrup onto my hand so it could warm up and feed at the same time.
It started looking a bit livelier so I went to place it on a ganzania flower just outside the back door but it took off, did a circuit around my head and then flew off into the back garden - success !

Pretty much every bee (or ant for that matter) you see is female. Certainly the ones on flowers are; only female bees have pollen baskets. Each colony only has a few males and they exist just to mate (or try to mate) and die. Colonies are really just a collective organism and can be categorized as female.
That is all. Pedant alert stand down.

Subanu - No I have never been stung by any insect I was photographing. Re the bumble bees, I only do this type of thing when the bee is in difficulty meaning it is having difficulty taking off. They are normally either cold or run out of "fuel" or both. Only advice is that I never directly pick them up, I just let them walk onto my finger.
