Sorry to see it deleted. I was looking forward to taking a look at it. Would you re-post it?

    Mary,

OK, and thank you. I tried to shoot Ixora; one in AUTO and one in Shutter Priority. The wind was blowing so very slightly. I did not use tripod . And, did not touch either photo in any editor. Which photo do you think has a better exposure, in any? Are the strong Sun speckles distracting to you? Would you say the image is ‘soft’? What else is wrong with it (other than boring)?
    <o:p> </o:p>
    PLEASE be brutally honest.<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
PS: I did not mean to post under ‘cool photos’ because the shots ain’t cool but was not sure where else to go? Also, I do not seem to be able to insert photos using the ‘post card icon’ from flickr. Uff.
Here is the link and thank you for any comments.

Never seen a flower like that before. It's beautiful. Cool shots is a good place for this :D When in doubt post it here. If they think it belongs somewhere else they'll nicely move it :D

I like the first photos the best. Soft to my eye works well, but a sharper photo showing off the detail of the flower would be good too. It all comes down to personal preference of the photographer :D

Exposure wise...the first one even with the sun speckles. I have that happen to me too. Just saw a posting on shooting flowers -- they have some hints on what works best. Here it is.

Tripod..it's a lifesaver, but if the flower is moving...well a tripod wouldn't help you much. A fast finger on the shutter would if you can catch it quick enough between movement :D

Hope to see more -- can't help you on how to get them from the flickr site...hopefully someone else will hop in and let you know.

I agree with Mary that the first is the better shot. The second looks a little overexposed on my monitor, though that could probably be corrected in software. It may have been due to the wind, but it looks as if the focus is sharper on the leaves than on the flower--usually one wants the opposite. Painful experience has taught me to not even try shooting flowers on a windy day--it's just too frustrating.

You'll get a better response if you can embed your images rather than posting a link. I don't know how Flickr works, but you should look for a place where right-clicking on the image offers the option of copying the image location, then paste that link between image tags in the post. thank you for taking the time to respond. I will try harder although it is intimidating to post the beginner’s photos on this forum. At least for me it is. During the last few days, I looked at hundreds of images on Grin alone and most are quite stunning! I may have to find a mentor willing to look at a few shots once a while to tell me if I am improving at all. <o:p></o:p>

Flickr does not allow me to right click on the image but it does allow me to copy the URL; I have tried to insert the [IMG]tags as instructed but no luck. Clearly. I am doing something wrong. Here is what I did.<o:p></o:p>[/img]

Ixora is a tropical bush that likes to blooms its head off. But, it may not be suitable for a pot culture in cold climates.

    Stephnay...

The last section in your IRL ahould read [/IMG] instead of as I've done. Hope that works. Tom
I always wanted to lie naked on a bearskin rug in front of a fireplace. Cracker Barrel didn't take kindly to it.

    Tom,

    Testing:
    5001142355_09eff55046_b.jpg

From the Photostream page I used the actions menu to go to View All Available Sizes. Then I clicked on large. When the photo opened, I was able to right-click on it and use Copy Image Location (Firefox on Windows). On Dgrin, I used the little image button and pasted the location into the popup box. There may be easier ways of doing this on flickr, ne_nau.gif, but this seems to work.

    HTH.

I like the warmth in the first one, but the crispness in the second one. I'd probably pick the second one to try adjusting. But I too am a beginner.

Bummer...I'm sure the Ixora plant would never survive a ND winter. It is so pretty tho.

Don't feel intimated at posting your photos here. I too spent many months looking at dgrin hoping I was good enough to post on here. Then one day I knew if I was going to learn....well I needed to post a photo and keep posting in order to learn. I've learned a lot here and am still learning. You'll find many friendly people on Dgrin that are so willing to help you out.

    So..post away. I look forward to seeing many more of your photos <img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6029383/emoji/thumb.gif&quot; border="0" alt="" >

Mary, do not hesitate to e-mail me if I can be of help. I've sent tropicals to a friend in ND and some have adjusted and blooming (on a windowsill that is).<o:p></o:p>

You are just too modest. I saw your water polo photos shots! Very nice:-) I did not notice the lighter was sharper until you’ve pointed it out. It is also more true to the actual color, Salmon pink, I think. Thank you much. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
