The provincial agricultural museum is situated in my home town of Sussex, NB (Canada). This year they hosted a "Harvest Days" celebration featuring demonstrations of old equipment and how things used to be done - using horse and human power.

This horse was standing at the top of a slatted wooden treadmill waiting to perform his work for the day:

Once everything was set up, the brake was released and the horse started walking causing the belt to move resulting in wood being sawed.

Not to be outdone, these kids were churning butter

while this young girl made apple juice.

And they celebrated the harvest with wagon loads of produce like this:

It was fun to watch the kids trying to figure out what the various machines were for and how they worked - without electricity. Inside the museum (I have other shots in my gallery) they were astounded by the tablets kids used to use (nope, not iPads - slates with chalk:rofl)

I find the young girl very sweet and the colors beautiful. But, the watermark on all photos is so strong on my monitor, it draws my eye to it, am sorry to say.

Nice set Snowgirl.... I had no idea they used horses on treadmills to turn a saw.... I use to help my aunt churn butter by hand when I was a kid.

Thanks folks. It was a beautiful day at the 'fair'. I played around inside the museum too taking shots of the various 'rooms' they'd set up, like the old school room desks with the ink pots and slates.. - this would be the original "tablet"? Today's kids would be astounded at a tablet that didn't need power to run rolleyes1.gif
