sharing links without Smugmug promo text

When I share a link with customers or friends, it is often via Facebook. I get something like this every time:

Any way around this?I'd like to eliminate the text that comes direct from SmugMug, or replace it if possible. Thank you.

Thank you. Does that work with the "messages" function of Facebook (I'll try it and see). These typically are not public posts or my "status updates."

I tried it, Andy, and yes, it is quite useful for public posts to my wall. If I want everone on my "friends list" to see a link, I will use this method. However, it doesn't seem to work if I wanted to send a message to a customer or customers via the "messages" function in Facebook. Thoughts?

Ah, one of my favorite pet peeves about Facebook. Their UI sucks. You can't tell from looking at this image, but if you click on the description or the title, you can actually go in and change it.

It's awful UI, because there's nothing indicating that the text is editable, except a useless yellow highlight.

But try it. It should work. See attachment:

Oh Yes, I had forgotten all about that, Daryl!

[strike]Interesting though -- since I'm not logged in as Stephen and don't have access to that private gallery, Facebook can't find an image to associate with the link. But in his examples, it can. So it must be using Javascript to look at the page. I wonder if the resulting message ends up with a broken image because the recipients may not have the password to the gallery (until after seeing the message.)[/strike]

Nevermind this. Andy was sharing through Be Social, not Facebook Messaging. Facebook Messaging is unable to get a thumbnail image from a private gallery -- it looks like it does a server-side call, not Javascript.

Interestingly, it looks like Be Social somehow works around this, because I just posted a link to a Private gallery and it's showing a thumbnail on my wall. The thumbnail is hosted at Facebook, not SmugMug, so it got copied to FB's servers.

(P.S. Can we please get the [strike] bbcode added to Dgrin? :-)

Darryl, it does seem to work. I got into FB, started a new message to myself (yes, it lets you do that, I guess), and typed over the text I wanted removed. It seems to stick, and when I received my own message, it looked good. I will test with an outgoing message to a friend tomorrow. Thank you so much.
