Privacy Question.

First a bit of background. I was trying to figure out how to do an HTML gallery and grabbed some html with images off the net. I followed the instructions and created the gallery. It worked and I figured I would replace the HTML with my own HTML. I got busy and forgot it. Last night I received an email from the copyright holder asking me (rightly) to remove the images and text. I did so instantly and sent him an apology. The page was never meant to be used and definitely not viewed by anyone buy me since there were products advertised that I don't offer.

Now, that being said: how did the copyright holder find and view the page?? I'm concerned now that private pages (portraits/weddings/etc) can be viewed by other than those authorized.

Read up on our privacy options, and holler with questions.... simple is to make the gallery unlisted, or passworded - but you can also set options so Google will never crawl

Andy; thanks. I did make the gallery unlisted but seems it didn't keep this fellow from finding his images. I'm not upset about HIM finding the images, but rather concerned that he found them when I thought they were hidden. I'll check out the links you list.

Unlisted doesn't protect someone from accessing the page if they can figure out the URL. It just doesn't list it in your galleries list unless you are logged on.

Did the HTML that you copied over as a sample still point to the photos in his server instead of your own copies? If so, he probably saw hits on photos coming from an unexpected location (your test page).

Ya know, I never thought of that but there should have been no hits on the images. No one else had access (as far as I know) and I don't remember clicking on either of the images but may have.
