The eyes have it...
Zoos and sanctuaries can be great places to practice, which is exactly what I was doing when I took these two pictures. I'd love to hear what I could have done differently/better to make the pictures more interesting.
Portrait of an emu, captured at Healesville Sanctuary:
The gull in this portrait just happened to be visiting the Melbourne Zoo. I don't think it had to pay the entry fees... It was apparently fascinated by the changing of lenses, which gave me the opporunity to practice closeups while waiting for my daughter to decide which lens she wanted to use.

Thank you!
The more I look at the picture of the emu, the less I like it. The beak and the back of the head look washed out.
I like 'em.:D
Bugs
Spiders
Flowers
I think the gull was contemplating theft of camera gear...

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

I have to admit that I was glad there was a fence between me and that emu! I suspect you could lose more than an eye if one of those took a dislike to you
The emus need -something- to make up for the bad hair
Thanks, both of you, for taking the time to comment. Much appreciated.
