This guy is no stranger to hard times..... The Indians had a saying " better to count ribs than tracks" not sure this is what they meant.

Neighbor bought him a couple of weeks ago....I looked for him today, he is looking a lot better than when I took the picture. The ribs are still showing, but got a better attitude, hanging out with the herd, and his coat was looking pretty good..... On the mend I think!!

Thanks for looking ... It was not meant to be enjoyable to look at.... I have had friends that rescued horses that looked like that.... Many horses live close to me and I have one myself..... All are well cared for....
Well... if it's meant to raise awareness, then I need the backstory. I got it now, from your replies to Snowgirl and myself, thank you.
Sorry for being short.

While not a pretty image to see, it does tell the story,
that the economic struggles don't just effect people.
It's great that Folks like your Neighbors have been
helping rescue those Horses.

Thanks Craig! gary:D
So true, so true. It also provides a startling example of what indiscriminate or excessive breeding does - it creates too many horses in a shrinking market that suffer needlessly - except for salvation by people like Gary and his neighbours. Sorry - it's a (one of several) fetish of mine. I hate to see any animal suffer and particularly due to human ignorance. Here is a picture of my horse. His name is Teak.
Here is a picture of another horse that was rescued by a friend of mine. The picture was taken the day he arrived.
I can't believe how people allow horses to reach a state of distress like these. Thank god for your friends and others like them.
