I usually curse shallow DOF when shooting macro, but I was pleasently surprised this time.

I really like the colors in this shot. The textures in the plant as well. I think the DOF may have been just a bit too narrow for this. The main part of the plant is still a bit soft.

I'm seeing a couple of strange almost smudge looking artifacts towards the bottom. I thought I had dirt on my monitor at first. I can't tell if these we in the shot or the result of some post processing.

Thanks for posting it, its a pretty cool shot.

    Love the picture
I think the picture is awesome. I love how two areas of the flower came into focus.thumb.gif

    Thanks guys,

Helvegr, that's a serious understatement. I only wanted the closed flower in focus. The stem was left OOF intentionally. Thanks for the input.

    I really like that picture.
I wish the center of the bloom was a little sharper, but I really like the effect of the shallow DOF along the stem and other leaves.

This is what I was trying to say. The bokeh is amazing, the DOF just cuts through the bloom leaving the center a bit soft. Still an awesome shot though!

Thanks for teh replies everyone. I see what you mean about the center of teh bloom. I've got to get better at using the DOF preview button.

And the dirty sensor marks were cloned out in another version, but I overlooked it on this one. Time for a good cleaning.
