I came across this while reading several photography articles on a rainy Sunday.

Why are old pictures in B&W?

It's funny-- when I was 5 or so, we got our first color tv. My parents tried to emphasize how lucky we were, because in their day everything was in black and white.

To their chagrin, I chose to take them literally. :lol

    Thanks for the laugh Jenn.

I missed them sorely when they stopped running the strips and so had to go out and buy their books:)

Sometimes I feel like Calvin when trying to grasp certain photography concepts:)

When my high school age son was 5 or 6 he was drawing with a pencil. I didn't realize the impact of my having a darkroom in the house had on him at that age. I asked if he wanted me to get his crayons down and he replied "no, I think I'll work in black & white today"!!rolleyes1.gif

    True Story:

When I was in grade school, which was PS68 in the Bronx, my Mom got called to the school by the schools child psychiatrist.

She said to my Mom- "Robert seems to only want to draw with the black crayon and I'm a bit concerned he's depressed!"

I guess that and the fact that a white kid in the late 1960's inner-city housing projects who was "bussed" into a white neighborhood *had* to have issues...

So... they called me down, and they ask me "Why do you only draw in black & white?"

So I say "Because Dad always draws in black and white and I like his drawings."

My Mom starts laughing.. because my Dad (who was very artistic) used to use Charcoal and Pencil to do drawings with beautiful gradients and cross-hatching, etc. He also worked in oil paint and his rangefinder camera got me my start a million years ago!

I was simply mimicking my Dad's style of drawing.
