Selling goods and prints with people in the photos

I was wondering if anyone has any information and/or guidance pertaining to this....
If you have photos of people in public galleries, it is likely that the only people purchasing photos and/or goods would be the people in the photos. However, there is really no way to control who purchases the photos.
From my understanding of the law, it appears as if you sell goods for profit (such as stickers, shirts, etc) printed with photos of people, you would need permission from the people in each photo.
Has anyone come across any problems in regards to this issue?
Or is there any advice as how to properly handle these sales?
