Came across this article and this followup on macfixit.com. The articles are about performance problems with the latest version of PS (and other parts of the suite) on Macintosh, and they list some possible fixes if you're experiencing this problem. Some of the solutions are on the main macfixit.com page, which will update in a few days, and the article will get archived. I believe that archived articles require a password, and the first two linked may as well. I'm registered, so it's hard for me to check.
