Why can't you show a message 'Flash Required to view Slideshow'?

I was going to show the slideshow page of my site to someone at work and didn't realise that Flash wasn't installed on the laptop in the meeting room.

Of course, when I went to my slideshow page nothing happened.

People of my parents generation have no knowledge of Flash or that it might be required. It made me wonder how hard it would be for a pop up window to appear saying 'Flash is required to view this Slideshow' I don't know how many people have looked at that page and just thought it wasn't up and running yet. I've put a link to Flash on my Info page now but some kind of universal message coming up when you try and look at a slideshow without Flash would be a lot better I think.

Or can I do something clever with my CSS to force a message like that to appear?

It's not hard and it's absolutely amazing to me that Smugmug has not put this capability into their slideshow in all these years. You can see customization #28 here for one option.

OK that's a homepage slideshow, and we don't have the message there (we should, agree with John). I've bugged it

As an experiment I just uninstalled Flash and this is what I get when I try to view the Slideshow -
