Ectemnius sp. digger wasp

An Ectemnius species digger wasp emerging from it's nest hole in a tree stump. This is the larger of the two Ectemnius wasp species that use the stump as a home. Not sure if it was worried about the recent rain or the paperazzi waiting outside but it seemed to be remarkably nervous about emerging.

These are some amazing captures. The wasp in 4 looks both mean and crazy. All these shots have great attitude. I love it!!

Thanks for the comments - they are interesting looking wasps with those huge front facing eyes.

No I'm shooting with an MPE-65 lens which goes upto 5:1 mag.
I have seen excellent photos taken using raynox add on diopters though.
