    I always thought these types of shots were tough to compose. The post says verticle and the bird's body position says horizontal.

    Nice one...perhaps a bit too dark?

    Its a nice capture and Ric has a point.

    I deal with this frequently when shooting white egrets. You have to expose for the light subject but end up with a dark BG. You get a proper exposure but at times that may mean a less pleasing image.

    This capture looks OK but you may want to try lightening up the BG and see how that comes out.
