70-200 2.8L IS problems

I rarely use mine, but when I do, occasionally it will stop focusing properly, and eventually the camera will refuse to take a photo. It happened first on my 40D and whenever I turned it off and back on, it would work for a few seconds then do it all over again.

Well, I have been shooting with my 70-200 on my 1Ds mkII for the past few weeks, and just today it did the same thing. Only difference is my 40D gave me an error message (ERR99). My 1Ds would just focus back and forth, and eventually I would finally get it in focus where I wanted, but it would refuse to take the picture.

Last time it happened I cleaned the lens contacts with an eraser and it fixed it, but that was like almost 2.5 years ago. And if it's still doing it, then the cleaning didn't fix it.

Anyone else have this problem and get it fixed properly? Because it's getting on my nerves and I'd hate for it to happen in the middle of a shoot. I already have to send one camera in to be cleaned and have another lens looked at for not working properly (different problem). So I'm starting to reach that point where the maintenance sucks.

It occurs frequently when the IS is on.

If memory serves me, I thought I read about this problem a few years ago.
Might want to try a search.

Yeah, I did. Google even brought up a Dgrin thread. Problem is every link I saw was a 40D problem. And I found that when it happened on my 40D. But I didn't know if the 1DsII would be a different issue.

Mine was displaying F00 randomly. Ended up something in the lens barrel broke and I sent it back to CPS for repair. I think my cost (after 40% off for Gold CPS members) was $180 I want to say? I'd send it to Canon and have them take a look at it.... Never know what's going on sometimes, here I thought my mount was lose (seemed like the lens moved some on the mount) and it was something completely different.

Well that's the weird thing. I threw it on my 7D and it just fired off photo after photo. No problems.
