d700 and zeikos grip issue?

Hi all.

Thanks to you some of you, i took a leap of faith, and got me a d700 (as you recall). God, am I in love with this camera!

However, I am experiencing an issue.. The issue happens only when I have camera gripped. It loses battery for a few seconds.

Scenario is as follows:

Shoot a few frames, frames write into memory, then BAM, camera turns off for 1-3 seconds..
Or when I am shooting, trying to move the focus point to a specific area, it dissapears for a moment, and battery sign starts blinking. a few seconds later, everything is ok.

the grip is a zeikos generic unit. I tried both grips I have (the other is on d300s), and both have had the same issue.
D300s works fine with either grip.

Has anyone heard of this? Is it a connection issue?

I'm at a loss here..:(

thanks in advnace.

is the other grip a nikon or is it also a generic?? The D700 has issues with both grips...correct??
If so I would send it in to be fixed...If the D300 has no issues then it is more than likely a defect in the 700.

    Good Luck

I was hoping that this wouldn't be the reply.. :(

yes, both grips are generic.. I just don't see a point in swinging 200$ for a nikon grip when it does same thing as Zeikos'..

I guess, i'll have to wait till I have no photoshoots lined up.

    thank you.

There appears to be a prob with this grip & D700. Have seen on other forums that N will not fix cams that are burned up by non-Nikon grips. While I agree re: the price difference, I'm not sure I would put anything electrical on a D700 that was not Nikon
    Good luck

I think there's something weird in the D700, not just yours. I use Nikon's grip, and if I don't have a battery installed in the grip, the Review image after a shot does not appear. If I select Playback it works normally. Why I might be shooting without a battery in the grip is irrelevant to what is clearly a bug. I have a D700 and D300 and the weirdness does not show up in the D300. I have not experienced the problem you post about, but then I'm using a Nikon grip. My hiccup is more of a WTF, and not a real problem like yours.

just wanted to give this thing a bump.. here is what I discovered..

I ensured that both my cameras are using a different battery type from what it is set up in the settings.. Guess what happened! Both - d300s and d700 experienced same issue. Battery icon showed up, cameras shot down.

Then, I made sure that the correct battery type is selected once again.. Last weekend I had shot a 6 hour show - neither of cameras had shot down once..
