Tips on shooting racing needed

I am headed to Road Atlanta tomorrow for the Petite Lemans race. This is my first time going to a race and doing any shooting. Looking for tips on settings and panning. I have never attempted to pan anything moving as fast a Porsche...

I will be shooting with a Canon Rebel XT with a Sigma 70-220 2.8 lense.
