In addition to green flash the sunsets lately were featuring something very non-typical for our part of SoCal - a thunderstorm. Here are a few exerpts from Oct 1st:

#1: Gold

#2 is very striking I really like it. For #7 did you look at a crop that takes out the fence? Maybe it is just me but at first glance I thought it was an anode. What can I say, once a geek always a geek.

As for another crop for #7... I kinda like the fence, since it's my favorite sunset vista. Besides, I don't like losing 2:3 ratio without severe reason and if I squeezed it any tighter I'd lose some compositional structure or some secondary, but important elements. deal.gif

#2 has a great way of moving your eye around the composition. Lovely colors that really create the beauty of the composition.

    Heh, thanks! thumb.gif
The thing is, we have a very particular coastal line here, with high hills (Santa Monica Mountains) on the South and Sierra foothills on the North. Add a couple of valleys (Conejo Valley and Moorpak/Simi valley) and you get a natural rule for colud formation (that is, if there are any) that perfectly "follows the sunset".

WOW nice captures, Nik! These would be lovely from anywhere but to catch lightning strikes and fire sunsets in SoCal, that's really something. :D

Beautiful, Nik! I was cooped up inside most of the day. Didn't even hear the thunder.

There was no thunder, at least for me. The whole action was dozens miles away, I don't think sound travels that far even if there was one (for some reason local thunderstorms are mostly silent even if they happen).

Unreal clouds in some of the top ones---whats green flash?

BTW-I don't know if you or anyone on this chain would be interested but I help run a travel club for photography lovers (amateurs and professionals). I'm in SF and we do some solid trips---feel free to check it out if it may interest you: shutterflytravel.com

Sorry, I'm in la LA land... ne_nau.gif I would go to SF for a fat paid gig (or SM/Dgrin anniversary;-), but other than that it's way out of my area...
