Got an opportunity to go to the Petit Lemans at Road Atlanta on Saturday and took a shot at shooting auto racing for the first time. This was my first attempt and using the panning technique....overall I was pleased with the efforts, but I think I need to work on the getting more of the car in focus.....C & C welcomed.

I covered the event all week; Wednesday through Saturday. These shots are from the main event on Saturday.
45 cars were entered in the 13th Petit LeMans held at Road Atlanta, which each year is the final event of the American LeMans Series.

I was only out there on Saturday until about 3:30...had to get home to watch the Georgia Tech game at 7:00. I went down on the grid before the race started, walked back up the hill to turn 10, went back to the pits for a tour (my nephew works for American Lemans and took us on a tour of the pits during the race) and had to walk the hill back from the pits. I was tempted to go to turn 6, but decided to just hang out at turn 10.
Se you Saturday at BDS@HGF....Go Jackets!
I could tell from your shots that you were shooting from the hill above turn 10a and 10b. For a short period of time, I was probably just across the track from you on the other side of the gravel run-off area. I was one of the guys in the "IMSA Photo" vests. I'm sorry I missed you.
I basically walked the entire track each day, shooting in every turn. As a result, I had no trouble getting to sleep last week!
See you Saturday.

B.H.J. - I'd say you've done, very, very well for a first effort at auto racing and panning. You've got some sharp stuff there! This was pretty much my first crack at this stuff as well. I shot just a few panning shots at a drag race a month or so ago, but not nearly enough to get a good feel for it.
There were a whole lot of cameras out there, but I'd bet Kent and I crossed paths at some point during the weekend.
Edit: I'm overhauling my Petit le Mans gallery so I have yanked the images I had originally posted here
