I just got a Canon 60d and I am amazed at how much memory this thing eats up. what is strange is it is rated as a 18mg camera. The actual files range from 17 mg to 24 mg. I am actually letting LIghtroom convert to .dng, but I don't get why the files would be bigger than 18 mg

You're confusing megabytes with megapixels. In the raw image, each pixel is represented by 14 bits in each channel for a total of 42 bits/pixel. Lossless compression is used to reduce the file size, but it is still larger than you expected.

Other than that, how do you like the 60D?

really like it. with LIghtroom 3, the noise is acceptable to my eye at 6400.
