Hey there people in peopleville! I don't get out of the wedding section much but I thought I would come over here and share a family shoot I did recently. I don't shoot a lot of b'nai mitzvah events but I do shoot a few by referral. I have great success shooting people prior to their main event, mostly this means an engagement session prior to a wedding. I think that shooting and getting to know someone before the shoot is a great help come the day of the event, so for the first time I worked out a family shoot with a bat mitzvah client in hopes of learning the same things about my clients such as shooting angles and pose-ability as well as being able to give them some great location family shots to use at the event. Slide shows are really popular at bar/bat mitzvahs.

So anyways, here are a few of my faves. Any comments or criticisms are certainly appreciated. You don't have to be nice! I post my work often in weddings but having some insight from some of you over here would be great.

    Hey Matt,

These look really nice! The only one that doesnt do it for me is #4. Maybe a tighter crop and slightly lower point of view would help so long as their heads werent cut by the treeline.

The rest are great, Def. a niche market where I live but i'd love to snag some of those gigs eventually!

    Thanks for sharing!

Thanks ben. I agree with you about 4. I should havegotten down lower for that one. If I remember right it is a tinybit soft at 100% so that is probably why I didn't crop into it much. Great observation though, so thanks. As for getting the mitzvah work, it is tough to get into the Jewish community. I answered a craigslist add for a guy who wanted someone to pick up his overflow. he taught me a lot about shooting them and a lot of the terminology. I have gotten some referalls as I say and I have gotten a wedding through the Jewish community. The first few I shot I really didn't enjoy. then I started to put a little more of me into them. The first few were very stiff, formal, and traditional because that is how my friend taught me to shoot them. Once I started getting my own work I did it my way and it was fun and satisfying. They are super fast moving and kids don't respect your space like adults do. They aren't easy to shot and they don't pay as much as weddings so I try not to take them during my big wedding months. They certainly have the potential for steady work though...

I am digging #7. 2,3,4,8,9 could use vignette imo. I like 1 but the mom and dad's head are getting bit lost in the background...I might selectively brush in some more contrast on their heads. I think 9 is bit bright as well.
