hiding a smart gallery?

I wanted to set up my popular photos to sort by date taken, so I created a smart gallery for popular photos and set the sort.

Right now it lives in my "Other" category, and that's fine...but I don't want to display the gallery when people browse my galleries. I'd like it to appear like the normal popular photos gallery.

I tried to unlist it, but then links don't work...unless I link to a specific image. Linking to a specific image won't work because I need the link to go to the first image, and that will change when new photos get thumbs up.

Unlisted is the proper way to keep something from displaying to the public on your site when browsing. Unlisted should not affect links at all so you should still be able to direct link to anything in that gallery. Can you be more specific about what link didn't work? Did you have external linking enabled? Did you have Hide Owner set to No?

with all other galleries I just use the nice name
looks like with unlisted I must also add the gallery information after the nice name
the following works

is there a reason the nice name URL doesn't work when the gallery is unlisted?

Nice names do not work with unlisted galleries. That's because unlisted galleries are not supposed to be easily discoverable or guessable so they require the gallery number and gallery key.
