Problems at night games

I've been having problems taking pictures at night games. I get half the picture with a red tint it isn't always on the same side and doesn't always happen. I can take a burst of photos and have varying results. I was at a different stadium the previous week and had no problems. I don't notice it at all during the day. Could it be that my lens needs cleaned? My daughter was playing with my camera a few weeks ago and took a couple pictures with all most directly into the sun. I don't imagine that was too helpful either. Any ideas?

I'm sorry I can't get my photos to post either

Thanks for any advice you can give.

whoa..yeah some shots 1/2 the screen has red cast..some shot the other 1/2 does. I was going to suggest it was cycling fluorescent lights but that doesn't fit the bill. no idea

I notice your in shutter priority @ 3200 iso 1/320 and manuel WB. Have you tried AWB and aperture priority because a lot of HS fields the lights are very different in the center and the end zones are very dark. Every field is different thats why it only happens at that field. Other than that I have know idea.

the difference in lights may explain some gradul change in light..but the deliniataion of color in those shots seem to be too drastic. It almost look like shutter failure but it is occuring on both sides and horizontally.

I went back and looked at the first game on the bad field and I had it set on auto. It would switch from frame to frame but would be the whole frame with the red cast. Maybe they just have terrible lighting along with gold helmets.

Try shooting in raw and adjust wb in pp is probably the only way to fix this. I really dont think its the the camera I think it's the lights cycling. Thats why you get differant shots frame to frame.

It is definitely not your camera. I have the same problem at one particular HS stadium. I have shot at this stadium on a few occasions and with different cameras. I believe it is still a cycling issue. The split casting I think may be caused in certain areas of the field where the light banks overlap coverage.

I only know of 2 solutions to the problem:

    1) as previously suggested...shoot in raw and correct in PP...it can be done.

    2) use a flash.

It is definitely the lights at the particular stadium cycling on you, I do shoot RAW but sometimes I have a really hard time getting the tinge out especially the grass. You have some that have perfectly white jerseys and some that have a color cast on them. Lights that are cycling will do that, just have to mark it down and understand that you may not want to shoot there. There is one HS Stadium here in Orlando I will not shoot at because I end up with dark brown patches of no light in the pictures the lights are so old and cycle so much.

Here is a gallery of shots that had amazingly bright lights for a HS but they cycled as well you can tell by the white in the jersey's on some images.

Thanks everyone for your input. clap.gif I was really concerned there was something wrong with my camera or lens with the way it would change from frame to frame.
