Smart gallery isn't

I have a smart gallery here:
http://portfolio.jcdill.com/Horses/Liberty/At-Liberty/14056910_c9aFL#23482549_UF7SR
This gallery is setup to include all photos with the keyword: liberty
I have added the keyword to all the photos in this gallery:
http://portfolio.jcdill.com/Horses/Farms-Stables-and-Ranches/Mares-Nest-2008/14057120_CWgAe#1034922692_KazHd
But they aren't showing up in the smart gallery. :-(

If you added the keywords to the photos after creating the smart gallery, go back to the smart setting, click on refresh and re-save the settings. There's currently an issue and smart galleries may not update automatically with keywords involved. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Keyword-based smart galleries are broken and mostly useless in their current form.

GRRRR. What is the ETA for fixing the automatic update? If you don't have an automatic update then the gallery isn't very smart!
I'm also having a problem with some buttons not showing up, sometimes. For example, I don't see a "refresh" button for smart gallery settings - I'm assuming this button is created using javascript. (Am I right?) Also, if I try to do bulk changes of keywords I don't get a "preview" button. This is a sporadic problem, and it's very frustrating to have these tools work sometimes, and then have a button simply Not Appear other times. Can you please make these buttons in PLAIN TEXT so that if the tool is present on my screen the button is a LINK, there on my screen? If you want it all buttonized you can use javascript and CSS to make a button on top of the plain text html link, hiding the plain text html link when javascript is working in the users browser.

Jay, thanks for the link to the other thread. It really helps to know the history of the problem!

Since it doesn't do what it's supposed to do, why don't you disable the option to create a smart gallery, until you can actually fix it? Or at the VERY LEAST put a warning in the dialog to create a smart gallery (and in the help text), warning people that it only works with the photos you have already uploaded, and that it (currently) doesn't work with photos you upload after creating the "smart" gallery. It's extremely frustrating that I put a significant amount of time into redesigning my site based on using smart galleries, only to find that they don't really work.
