Stefanie....marginal NSFW...cowgirl...
Stefanie needed a shot for a cowgirl calendar.
Not sure which shot she would pick so we shot a large variety of outfits and setups. I shot her between rainshowers, she was a great sport we had a great time with the shoot.
Her gallery is here...a couple more NSFW shots in the gallery just so you know: http://miker1.smugmug.com/Portraits/Stefanie/14055349_zsFS2#1035265275_nR2Nx

Those hitchhiker shots really are lot of fun. Are these all natural light?

We had a lot of fun with the hitchhiking shots. The sun was to photo right so I like the light on her face and it was an attitude thing, she was playing it cool .
Shots are mostly flashed. Except the hitchiker shots and some of the ones on the deck.
All the ones like the one posted here are flash.

I like the balance you have between the subjects exposure and the background.

Yeah that is what the flash will do for you....just that slightly brighter exposure on the subject really helps the photo to pop.

I really like the hitchhiking B&W's where she's making eye contact!

For flash I use a 42" umbrella style softbox with an sb800. Thanks, I have been wanting to do the hitchhiking shots for awhile and this was a perfect chance to do them, glad people are liking them.
Outdoor flash tutorial....hmmmmm. That would be tough....I just kind of eyeball it. The trick is in the relationship between, f-stop (shutter speed), iso, strength and angle of the light coming from the flash, and the ambient light. You put them all together and come up with a recipe for your given circumstance depending on the look you are going for.
Flash is tough......I often wish I could run them all over with my truck

I am hopeful that dumping weddings will allow me the time concentrate on making improvements to my portraits that have eluded me since I have not had the time to practice and experiment as I would have liked.
Appreciate you taking the time to comment.
Thanks kdog, not just once in a while....most of the time....as much time as I have spent studying and practicing with the flash...it never seems to get that much easier...of course if I was shooting setups in a studio I am sure it would be much easier.

Hi Heather, She was a natural poser, confidence will do that.
Hi Tom, Sounds like a fun project, get the wife out there and have fun with it.
Hi Pete, Thanks, as we all know having a good model makes so much difference in the finished product....maybe I will specialize in cowgirl photography .
