Different Home Page Host and wanting vanity URL

I currently use Squarespace for my main page (blog and site is WAY easier to use and customize) however I would like my smugmug url to be clients.example.com where my main site is www.example.com/example.com I am using Network Solutions and I assume it has something to do with CNAME but the description of the settings seem so vague I don't understand them or if that is even the right spot.

I'm assuming it should be
Alias (clients)
TTL (doesn't matter from my understanding and was left at default)
Refers to host (??? no idea what this means, it has a bullet and a drop down for either @(none) or www )
Other Host (i had set to domains.smugmug.com

With these settings i get to a squarespace place holder page...

I updated custom hostname in smugmug settings to to clients.example.com
