Google maps API

I enabled maps on my home page, added the key. When my Home page starts, I get the warning a new key is required and the helpful info to go to http://code.google.com/apis/maps/ I get their and I am confronted with lots of different maps and am now confused as to what to do next.
There is a new API version 3 which is recomended to replace version 1 (which I think I have). It says that this version does not require a key:dunno
Could someone help me sort this out?

What I would also like to do is to download as a jpg file a map I have created so that I can insert this in a relevant gallery. Is this posible?

I had already gone through the process you describe to get my updated API. I repeated it following your reply above and still have the same result that a new key is required.

I shall try Support Heroes now. I am happy for you to delete this thread.
