Monkeys and Turtles

Hi everyone,

I went to Ecuador this summer and visited the Galapagos Islands and the Amazon Rainforest. I took a few thousand pictures while I was there, and these are some of the best ones. Most of the time I kept the camera on P and didn't mess with much, as I just wanted to get the shot and wasn't sure how much changing the aperture or shutter speed would change the basic look of the photo. I haven't done anything with these photos except download them to Aperture and upload them to SmugMug.

Can you tell me what I can do better the next time I have an opportunity like this? Thanks!

A Squirrel Monkey (a bit unhappy)

Another Squirrel Monkey (not so unhappy)

Not bad at all. Pretty good actually. You did a good job with the exposures in tough conditions. The comps are unremarkable though, which may be why you didn't get many comments. They look like zoo shots, even though I doubt they are, since you were in Equador. That shot with the monkey with his mouth open would have more compelling if you could crop-in more, or had gotten in real close so that he practically fills the frame. Then we could really experience his aggressive emotion. But as it is, he's a little lost in the frame. Maybe crop out the upper right of the shot so he's in a rule of thirds crossing. I think that would be a good compromise. Oh, and you should have posted the cute seal (otter?) shot. I guarantee that would have gotten comments. mwink.gif

Very good set, especially the first image.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

I have to admit that I prefer the tighter crops, but either way, great set of captures! The sandy seal is just too cute! thumb.gif
