the closer you get , the more narrow DOF will be
that is our major problem

you WANT more DOF ;

more light
slower shutterspeed
higher ISO

anything in order to narrow aperture

Not bad for first go - good exposure, Macro is a lot easier when shooting 1:1 or higher magnification if you use the flash with the camera in manual and flash in TTL mode. Typical settings 1/200th,ISO100,F11.
